Synopsis: At the altar, on the day of her long-awaited wedding, 30-year-old, Agnes Jones (Amy Adams), a White, wealthy, but humble, Upper East Side, New Yorker, is told by her husband-to-be, that he's, well, Gay! Spiraling downwards into an depression of social isolation, Agnes buries her face in an old, college literature book containing the stories of author, Henrik Ibsen, and finds, Hedda Gabler, Iben's classic, particulaly worthy of her time.

Somewhere during her reading, Agnes abandons her old self for a new, stronger, character, Hedda Gabler. She becomes Hedda (at least in her mind). When Hedda gets pregnant in Act 2, that is her cue to do the same, and she does, with a man she meets (Steve Carrell) and manipulates into believing she loves him. She imitates Hedda's subsequent actions as well, including, her manipulation of those in her life, convincing others to kill themselves, and, finally, killing herself.

What the press would say:

"In this colorful Allen adaptation of one of a classic play, Amy Adams is both hilarious and heartbreaking in the role of a mad-woman."

"Art has always been accused of influencing bad behavior. Woody Allen's contemporary re-telling of Hedda Gabbler is a disturbing account of one potentially serious artisitc problem--the influence of art on the susceptible, the unstable."

"A terrific film that very much retains the drama and moral seriousness of its source material."

"Allen is an expert on character writing. Here he writes a two-part role unlike any other in his or anyone else's filmic career."
