Synopsis: The life of the famous American composer Jerome Kern (Clooney) who wrote musicals like "Show Boat" and "The Last Time I Saw Paris". Most of them were performed by the diva Marilyn Miller (Watts) In the movie we see Kern's relationship with his wife (Kidman). His long-lasting friendship with the orchestrator James Hessler (Penn). The idiotypic father-daughter-like relationship between Kern and Sally Hessler (Knightley) and his collaborations with entrepreneur Charles Frohman (Cox) and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein (Van Dien)

What the press would say:

""Feel good. Sing along" Entertaiment Weekly

"Coppola is the queen of musical" New Yorker

"A second Oscar for Mr. Clooney" New York Times

"Knightley and Watts can sing" Rolling Stone

The first musical directed by Sofia Coppola. Although "Till the Clouds Roll By" is a remake of a 1949 movie, Coppola & Condon didn't follow the old movie but they reconstructed the whole life of Jerome Kern. We see Kern looking for a job in Broadway but none trusts him till the time he meets a musical genius, the orchestrator James Hessler, portrayed impeccably by Sean Penn. George Clooney is exquisite in his role. Penn has a baity dramatic role portraying a musician that wants to write a classical symphony and wastes his life trying to make his dreams come true. Kidman does a decent job as Kern's wife. The movie's show stealers are Watts and Knightley who excel with their voices singing the most memorable songs of Kern. Knightley plays Penn's daughter who ignores her father's advice and becomes a singer, demanding a role in his "uncle's" musical. The rivalry between Knightley and the big star Watts offers the most memorable scenes in this musical. The whole production is fabulous. Great cinematography, art direction and sound. If a musical must win this year, this must be "Till the Clouds Roll By"
